I met with Michael Fallon in Portsmouth last year and am very pleased that he is now Minister with responsibilities for building up business and investment in our city. Having someone with his influence will be extremely helpful. It shows the commitment of the Prime Minister whom I met in November at his office in the House of Commons, to ask for his help to retain our shipbuilding skills in the dockyard. The PM’s commitment to Portsmouth was very clear both as the home of the Royal Navy and to encourage other investment into the city.
I am determined to help build this city through investment and improving our education and training to enable future generations to find employment. My own vision of Portsmouth is a high tech city with excellent schools and shops and a great seaside place to live.
