Winchester Conservative parliamentary candidate Flick Drummond has visited Swanmore’s children’s cooking club to meet with staff and pupils.
Flick visited last week in her role of Meon Valley MP but the club held at Swanmore Methodist Church is within the new Winchester constituency boundaries.
Flick met the amazing Mavis Daniels and her team of volunteers. She has been running the club for the local children for over 20 years.
There is a wide mix of ages from six years up to GCSE age. Many parents who attended as children now send their own children to learn from Mavis and her team.
“Thank you to Mavis and her brilliant team for inviting me to visit what is a much-loved community asset in Swanmore,” said Flick.
“The cooking skills the children and young people learn will stay with them throughout their lives.
“Mavis told me they learn to cook a wide range of recipes along with budgeting, weighing, measuring and useful cooking skills. She even introduces recipes to help prepare those going to university with food that is easy and cost effective to cook.
“At a time when many people have lost the skills of how to cook, this club is bucking the trend. I am hugely supportive of what it does.”
